My name is Fleur Jones-Mannix and I am the manager of Thurrock Carers Service in Grays.
I would like to introduce our services and ask, if you are a therapist or beautician, if you could help us provide a very special pamper day in June for our carers. (CLICK HERE for more information)
Support for Carers in Thurrock
Thurrock Carers Service covers all areas of Thurrock and, if you are a carer, we can offer support and/or advice.
We run outreach drop-in mornings and currently have 5 specific support groups: Drug & Alcohol, Support with SEN Children, Mental Health, Dementia Support, and a Carers Group.
We hold events for carers throughout the year. We had a Christmas afternoon tea with a swing singer, we have just had our ‘Love Your Carers Valentines event,’ and we are looking forward to the Easter tea in April.
If the support you need is something we can’t directly help with, we will refer you to someone who can. We signpost to a lot of other agencies, mostly with Thurrock and Brentwood MIND
Carers Week provides an opportunity to highlight the work that carers do and raise awareness because, for many people, looking after their loved-one is something they do automatically if the need arises. They often don’t think of themselves as ‘carers.’ But caring for someone can bring its own challenges and stresses and it is important that carers, as well as those they are looking after, get the support they so often deserve and need. Sometimes, just to have a chat with someone in a similar position can provide a surprising amount of respite and relief for a carer.
This year, for Carers Week, we are planning various activities throughout the week. But the highlight of the week is going to be a very special day for our carers that will enable us to really spoil them and let them know how much they are appreciated.
Could you volunteer your services for the day?
How could you spoil someone:
• Offering a manicure or pedicure
• A hair cut or blow-dry?
• A therapy such as reflexology, massage, mindfulness…….
Or any other ways you can think of to pamper our carers.
We would really appreciate your support. And, although this is unpaid, we are sure you will benefit with potential new clients. We’ll also be doing a pamper pack where you can have your leaflet added for the clients to take away, so the prospect of new business will be high.
We are currently sourcing a venue and will confirm the exact date soon, but it will definitely be during Carers Week.
Please let me know if anyone can help at all
